Collection: Hot Wheels

In 1966 Mattel was under the leadership of Chairman Elliott Handler. Handler watched his grandchildren playing with the small foreign cars made by Matchbox. Having recently acquired a die cast manufacturing vendor, Elliott asked Mattel's Jack Ryan to come up with something different for die-cast cars. The first thing Ryan did, was to steal designer Harry Bradley from the Chevrolet Motor Divsion of GM (not including a one day stint at Chrysler between Chevy and Mattel).Market research told them that kids love to roll these cars, hence the creation of the low friction wheel resulting in the new fast diecast cars, Hot Wheels, and the tracks to race them on. Hot Wheels were born, and have grown into one of the most collectible diecast brands on the planet!
